If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.

The Basement Project Visit – Year 5

Year 5 pupils were delighted to welcome visitors from The Basement Project Charity, a local organisation dedicated to supporting people experiencing homelessness and hardship. The visit provided a meaningful opportunity for children to learn about the importance of kindness, community, and helping others, and fitted dovetailed with our Rights Respecting School position.

In preparation, pupils collected cereal boxes, which were used to create an impressive and fun cereal box domino display. This creative activity symbolised how small contributions can come together to make a big difference—just like the work of the charity itself.

During the visit, pupils listened carefully to an engaging talk from the charity representatives, who explained the vital support they provide to those in need. The children also watched powerful videos featuring real-life stories of individuals who have received care and support from The Basement Project. These stories helped bring the charity’s work to life and encouraged empathy and understanding among the pupils.

Inspired by what they had learned, the children then took part in a creative task, designing new logos for the charity. Their thoughtful and imaginative work reflected their appreciation of the charity’s mission and values.

Overall, it was a highly valuable and inspiring experience for Year 5, leaving pupils with a deeper understanding of how they can make a positive difference in the world.
